The Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector

My side effects haven’t been too bad but about halfway through month two, I started getting a really unattractive dermatitis rash on the backs of my hands. Slathering this thick, greasy, slightly green cream on them was the only thing that helped. A word of advice though – don’t touch anything until it’s absorbed or you’ll leave behind an oily slug trail. Buy it here.

Lavera Basis All Round Cream

I was in London for the weekend and whilst my skin hasn’t been dry, city air coupled with the crosswinds of the tube network really made my skin feel tight and look dreadful. I bought this from Wholefoods for £6.99 – not bad for a vegan and cruelty-free brand and a relatively large tin of product considering you only use a tiny amount at a time. Before Isotretinoin I wouldn’t have let this thick cream anywhere near my face but it’s been soothing my awkward forehead flake situation, and smelling gorgeous in the process. If you don’t live near a Wholefoods, you can buy it here.

Superdrug Naturally Radiant Hot Cloth Cleanser

This is the perfect combination of a rich shea-buttery cleanser and soft yet slightly exfoliating muslin cloth. It doesn’t dry out my skin and leaves it smelling lovely, and the hot cloth really helps to gently slough away any rogue flakes. Buy it.

Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Body Lotion

This stuff literally makes you smell like chocolate, and it’s so thick and rich that you only use a tiny bit at a time. I’m pretty sure Palmer’s is universally renowned as the nicest smelling moisturiser so I’ll just leave this here. You can buy it in so many places, e.g. at Boots.

Dr Organic Royal Jelly Lip Balm

I’ve had a nightmare finding a lip balm that didn’t just sit on top of my chapped, cracked, flaky lips, but this one seems to be the best. Once it stayed on my lips for 4 hours (literally unheard of for me). Slightly pricey for a lip balm but so worth it. Buy it at Holland & Barratt.

So there it is! My top 5 cruelty free and affordable products that will help you on your Accutane journey. Oh, and a final tip: stay away from sharp corners and volatile cats. This drug makes your skin so fragile that you WILL look like you’re a wild woman living in the woods. Good luck 🙂
